About Springfield Farm Fence
Springfield Farm Fence is a locally owned fence contractor working farm and ranch ground around Springfield, Missouri. We build field and woven wire, high-tensile and electric, barbed wire, board and rail, welded pipe and corrals, and farm gates and entrances, and we clear the line and pull the old fence before any of it starts. The animal decides the spec. Cattle lean on a fence, horses run at it, goats look for the gap, and no single fence answers all three.
The thing that separates a fence job here from one two states west is the rock. On the Springfield Plateau the soil is thin and cherty and the limestone starts a few inches down. A tractor auger stalls on it. We carry rock teeth and a hydraulic hammer, so a corner post goes to the depth it needs instead of the depth the ground offered. Plenty of leaning fence around here started as a good post in a short hole.
After the hole, the brace. Every corner, end, gate opening, and hard turn gets a full H-brace before a single strand goes on. Wire comes up to a set tension on a strainer, not by hand and eye. Posts get backfilled in lifts and tamped, because tamped soil grips the whole post and can be reset later, and a concrete collar around wood just holds water at the ground line.
We know this country as cattle country. Southwest Missouri is cow-calf ground, and Missouri keeps more beef cows than almost any state. Two generations back Greene County was dairy, with hundreds of milk herds on this same grass. Most of that fence is still standing and most of it is now holding a very different animal. Between the cattle places we fence horse farms and small acreages, and those jobs get the same braces on shorter runs.
We carry Missouri licensing and insurance on every job. The work goes on paper first: footage, fence type, corner count, gates, and clearing. If your existing fence can be rebraced and retensioned instead of torn out, we will tell you that, because it is the cheaper job and sometimes it is the right one.
